The Salt Kiln

In 2006 I decided to build (have built) a Salt Kiln, and by the spring of 2007 my kiln builder, Bruce Dehnert, the director of ceramics at the Peters Valley Craft Center, in Layton, NJ, had begun building my 25 cu-ft (setting space) cross draft salt and soda kiln. Following are pictures and some details of its construction and subsequent firings.

Final Shape is Made Clear

Details of door seal gallery, interior structure, arch and soda ports, and arch isulation before chicken wire and castable is laid down.
